New job, mo' money mo' problems.

I'm actually nervous about going to work today. I haven't been nervous since I worked for Christopher so many years ago. Then again, nervous energy is good I guess. I hope everyone who reads this(all four) had a nice holiday weekend. I managed to sneak in a pretty decent one myself. Turkey was consumed, managed to fit in a few Christmas Ales.
Worry not folks who think we're hiding for the winter, you're friends at Scum City Racing are hard at work for 2012, hoping to do big things. I'll keep you posted on the blog, and maybe we'll have some sort of announcement soon. What, well that's hard to guess I could announce that I'm declaring myself for the NBA draft, or Captain George announced his candidacy for President of Brazil. Like I said, doing big things.

Keep it rubber side down, winter is coming

last chart for a while

so one last place ratio over time chart, again, take this with a grain of salt, I had to fill in a lot of spots, so if there's a data point where someone obviously didn't race its because I put in a value to make the chart pretty. Using some half-assed ordinary least squares, I came up with a formula for using accumulated previous race data to determine places for races not raced. Upon using the race place estimator formula I learned it was really inaccurate. and then decided I might as well pull numbers out of my butt. So I just copied and pasted the place ratio from the race before the one with no data. just to make the chart flow... cxmetrics last last time, approching 0 is good and approaching 1 is bad... Dave, Jay and Russel seem to be the most consistent

Happy Turkey Day!

It's 655, and America's least read blogger is already up, but that's no biggie really I write half these silly blog post first thing in the morning anyhow. In lighter news I blew up the cleat on my very very new bebop pedals in about six weeks. Needless to say I'll be hoping for a warranty and until then street shoes it is again. I met my winter nemesis already, and its only been raining a lot. That my friends is this fucking pot hole.
Seriously

The rain was coming down pretty hard on Wednesday and this thing was filled with water, naturally that makes it pretty hard to see and impossible to guage it's depth. I was riding along after picking up my 2 oclock daily and all I feel is

Drop
Front wheel turns a little
Air, sweet air
Crunch of my helmet hitting the deck

Landed really hard on my left shoulder and head, I get up and am in utter shock. I drag the bike over to the sidewalk and find my lock. Apparently it flew out of my pocket and nailed a passing pedestrian right in the chest. Turned up to be a really nice guy who worked for Sherwin Williams and he was more concerned for me then himself. I took thirty seconds off and watched a homeless guy take a whole bottle of wine to the face in two gulps. I wasn't even upset I was flat out jealous, not gonna lie.I get back on the bike and everything is just riding bad, legs aren't responding right, core hurts like hell. I finish up my daily runs and call it. No reason to work under those conditions. I heavily consider not coming in the next day.

I came in the next day. I don't know why I did, but that's what my dumb ass did. Aside from nasty soreness I was largely no worse for the wear. Until the adrenaline of the day wore off about 8 or 9 pm. Then I was on  a bullet train to "HOLY SHIT THIS HURTS" burgh. I guess I'll have to just watch myself for a week or so in theory I should be off the mend.

The moral of the story you want to know? Take some fucking pride in your streets. Especially main ones, and if your city doesn't bother much like mine ride in the left lane. No one will notice since seemingly only cars can ride in the curb lane as is. Why is that? Can absolutely anyone offer me an answer to that, I'm not angry about it just royally confused.

Well, enjoy your turkey day all, eat a bunch for Will, because he's Vegan. I'll see you all downtown black Friday. I'll be the bored one doing nothing but coming in.

Cross end, Peanuts and Water(not punch and pie)

First season of scum city cross in the can. Thank you to all the teammates who came out every week, and made this season my best season of racing, not by placement or ranking. I've had more fun this year then I've had in forever. I have in my head a "roast" post but frankly that'll have to wait a bit. Captain George got third in the B series, which is awesome. Alex, who sorely doesn't write enough blog posts as his are better then mine by far, was awesome in the single speed division. Will was sorely missed during his current jaunt to Chicago but  we all know he's doing his thing out there. Russel was awesome this year, and a complete joy to hang out with, and is a fantastic racer.
(J. Karp Joke)
I got nothing about Jay, I've worked with him for half a forever, one of the nicest guys on the planet. Thanks for  hanging tight with us and I can't wait to see you on the road soon.

I flat out sucked this year. Got my ass handed to me every single time I raced. I'm not blogging for sympathy trust me, I'm just letting you know how deep that rabbit hole got. On a personal note, I was happy to see the food truck/neocx connection finally happen. Cross races in my mind always needed a food truck, just locally never happened and I was stoked to see it work out.

Next year is looking fun for us, we officially signed our first Master, that's this guys Elvis Aaron Presley. He apparently is walking away from a retired music career to race bikes. He's a bit older, but he's got some sweet moves, and he impressed me with his barbecue sauce. Absolutely bold flavors going on in that sauce.

Also, thanks for NEOCX for putting on a great series and we look forward to next year. If you need a Minister of Ruckus, I know a few guys.

Wanna buy a monkey?

Another Saturday, another day up way too early. But, it's OK there's always the Intertoobz to keep me company. I'm actually nervous about cross tomorrow insane as that is. I havent been nervous all season mostly due to my sucktitude. Don't worry about the rest of the team, the guys are in their hyperbaric chamber for recovery most evenings now and they've started eating the only superfood we could afford after those chambers, that my friends is Ramen Noodles. So George and Jay have been shooting them up via IV drip. I don't know if that's gonna help but we had some spanish doctor do a consult. It's all very technical, and involves physics.

THESE ARE AMAZING

I for one love a well timed heckle.  If anything NEOCX needs more hecklers then currently are out there. I know for a fact me racing a bike looks and is absurd, so I welcome the commentary from the peanut gallery. So bring on your heckles, give me your best, I need the chuckles out there as I continue to suck.

Bacon primes people, bacon primes.

Cross finals! Double Plus Good, Citizen!

Last race on sunday, which generally is the best race I have meaning I don't get dropped by the kid on a unicycle. I'm really hoping the guys tear it up and keep their places, if not try to go up one. (I'm looking at you george[does stupid hand motion to denote looking]) I hope everyone can come out and support us, we do love seeing spectators at races and the weather promises to be pretty decent actually.

Also, due to my tireless efforts, meaning pestering them and begging, THERE WILL BE FOOD TRUCKS. Finally, hot food after a race! Although a little love over at the NEOCX site would have been nice to get the word out about that. Gregg's a busy guy though he does to a ton of cat wrangling so no worries.
I'm sorry I haven't said anything sooner, but Alex Kinney's bike got stolen, if anyone sees it anywhere I want to know. There are few people on this earth lower than bike thieves, and to steal from a guy like Alex who as far back as I can remember hasn't said a terrible thing to a soul on this planet those fucks deserve the beating I'd gladly give them. I hate bike thieves, and I fear cleveland now has a crew of pros. Too many high end bikes have been stolen and never seen again recently. Years ago it was a waiting game, your bike got stolen, two weeks later it was on Craigslist. Now they're just flat out disappearing and that bothers the shit out of me. Oh well, if I see the bike, I'm getting that shit back for Alex.

Oh well, I'm all out of steam. I'd like to thank my cat Horst for waking me up that 15 minutes early today that really helped with being able to knock this out. I hope every one's friday goes well and I leave you with a few links to get things going.

I'm suing Captain George.

Apparently he has a problem with all new riders being able to skip the "tramp stamp" tattoo. So, if you hit one of us up for an app know that there will be a tattoo involved. I did my best to make it easy to get new blood on the team, but Captain George put his foot down. All tramp stamped dudes all the time I guess....

That being said, today's racing was fun, the course was brutal as it always is at todd fields. I had a few moments of not feeling like a total tool bag myself! That being said, I'm gonna cruise craigslist for dudes....

HOLY SHIT I MEAN GOOGLE LOTS OF PORN...

btw, if you guys haven't figured it out I'm joking on this blog. A lot.

Today's thoughts

Happy weekend. Lots of stuff in the works, keep checking in. As for me, I got shit to do today. It's the first day I've had in a long time.

Daylight savings whaaat?

Happy Tuesday. It's tuesday right?I think it is, I'm running with that. A few things, sorry I've not been checking in I've been busy with stuff and things, and things and stuff. SCUM CITY KILLED IT AT UCI! I haven't found the standings yet for a link, but rest assured we kilt it. In the face, with our fists. Which makes me a happy guy.

Now onto some bidness. Are you a local racer looking for a team? Scum City wants you, fabulous benefits include unlimited time with Captain George, all the beer you can afford to drink that you bring on your own, and of course punch and pie. We, like most teams will require a time commitment so if you're interested flag one of us down. I'll suspend the required tramp stamp tattoo for the guys for this year. ONLY THIS YEAR. I look forward to ruining the racing careers by having you associated with us.

Ok, I'll let you all get back to watching internet cat videos.

chagrin river

so.. i like making charts. On Monday I was lamenting to the Ace Smasher Jay about routinely getting whooped in the sscx category, crying "oh why did I not race the Bs this year, I'd be doing sooo much better". Jay's only response was you can't compare races like that, doing good in one category has no meaning of capability in any other category...every race to every racer is different. He's probably right, but I like making charts, and I think they're fun to look at, and the kind people of Chagrin River Cyclocross provided us with our lap splits. Here they are in pretty chart form. Laps vs Time in minutes

I think Jay day 2 gets the prize for most consistent
Day 1

Day 2

Charts aside, good luck to Will as he voyages westward to chi-town, and to Jay, Russell, and George as they throw their hats into the UCI3 cyclocross festival down in the dirty 'Nati. Dave and I and maybe Dean? will be holding down the fort and hopefully doing well at the local race in Solon.
